I make up schackels from .010 brass wire for this.
Sounds complicated but is really easy and quick. Also looks great.

KCS boxcar
Attached are photos of a KCS Interim AAR boxcar I just completed. It was built from a Speedwitch kit. The flat finish dried less than 2 hours before packing the car and bringing it to the Twin

Yeah, it does, but I don't think the Viking name was in use in 1916, being a trade name Chicago-Cleveland transitioned to some time around WWII.

I used Campbell Scale Models chain, which is 42 links per inch. I used 1x6 styrene for the brake levers, and 0.012 wire with clevises made from Grandt Line turnbuckles for the brake
