Just thought to check the Ken Soroos Soo freight cars book. It contains a photo of WC owned 137190, also built 11-51, in the second iteration, proving that all three variations of the lettering scheme

Removal started in 1937 according to the "bible". So by 1942, these were definitely getting rare, but obviously not extinct. I plan, in modeling 1944, to have one car so equipped of a reasonable PFE

0.005" brass sheet. Etching is being considered as you can get the exact edge needed. Cutting it is too difficult for my big hands and weakening eyes😉

45450 is the second iteration of the "billboard block" lettering, after the words were spread out for visual balance but before they were lowered. W.C. owned 13096 was built within weeks of Lester's

I used some.002 brass shim for similar sheet metal Central Vermont shields. Per F&C instructions. Worked well, cut cleanly with an Xacto, stayed flat. Maybe .003. something like that.

I pulled the image into my art software and sampled that reefer. The pixels are all a lighter version of orange. When I adjust the tone by darkening it by 15% the result is ~PFE orange (see attached
