Claus I would agree with Dennis & Ben. The stockcar is most likely a St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern car. One of the other photos I posted came from this site

The F&C people recommend "Shout" for cleaning their resin.
I never tap, just screw it in...Only time I should have was on Westerfield's old brittle gun metal gray castings. Had struggled though

If this is an 8' door car, a somewhat easy kit bash can be made by removing the outer two panels on each end of a Branchline #1000A Blueprint series 50' 16 panel box car,

I did one of those early early Sunshine kits of the rebuilt DS cars that included orange decals in the map scheme for the overall green car with black ends/roof.

Welcome to the club.
Washing parts depends on who made the kit and what mold release they used. Some mold releases are hard to completely remove, and some paints like Tru Color have poor adherence

One thing that I would add is to completely read the instructions and try to identify all the parts before starting.
I leave the small parts together as they are easier to identify

Yes, watermelons in stockcars was very common. Typically laid in a bed of straw for cushioning. Attached are a few photos.
