Ah, overexposure of the one clean car while the rest of the image is right. Film and eyes playing tricks on my mind. Thanks for confirming the orange tone that "looked" yellow to me.

I pulled the image into my art software and sampled that reefer. The pixels are all a lighter version of orange. When I adjust the tone by darkening it by 15% the result is ~PFE orange (see attached

Re: Wartime reefers on Cajon
Spen,
It's a Jack Delano photo from his 1943 trip for OWI on the Santa Fe. I'm not saying the freshly washed PFE car wasn't orange, just that to my eye, it was less so than I would have expected.

Bowser Parts Run - an offer.
I apologize for the cross-posting but I wanted to get this out to several lists. On a few lists we’ve discussed parts and how oftentimes shipping is much more than the parts. This coming Saturday

If that photo is from the early 20s (and I haven't checked to see when the cab forward could have been available), then perhaps that reefer was in the original color scheme.

I too get a 404 error. And Shorpy directly is often freezing, so I haven't gotten to that image directly, but I've been close. That could be my internet connection, so I might try tomorrow.
