Very interesting to know Bob! I assume it's because the mines of the Crow, Kootenays and Vancouver Island went to locomotive fuel first and foremost, not being the best for home heating.

Except that, if the tank car is insulated, the tank bands would be installed to run under the insulation so they could securely clamp the tank to the frame. Tank car insulation was asbestos sheet

Add spilled lading on the center section of the tank where the dome is and it sounds pretty complete. I would skip most rust, although a little at the tank bands where they move on the tank during
