Must be a car in LCL service.  Why else have a scale inside?

It is in the little details.
I like the way the corner is notched for hanging the markerlights

Hello Everyone,

RP Cyc #35, about the 1937 AAR boxcars is a real monster, at 384 pages. Much reading in this issue. There were 750 copies printed this summer and now only about 100 or so remain. They expect to be sold out by Thanksgiving. If you have been delaying ordering your copy, now is the time.

Thanks to everyone supporting this freight car publication.

If you still need a copy please contact me off list.

But it was his WIFE that picked the scheme from several alternatives . . .

McGinnis became president of the NH in April, 1954, and he was the “mover” who started the new paint schemes, so some point in time after that.

Peter Ness’ web site has more info

Search the page for “McGinnis” and you’ll find some more dates as applied to specific series.

1955 I think - both appeared in that year but I don't know if one preceded the other.

When did New Haven first start painting boxcars in the bright orange and orange and black paint schemes?

I attached an image of the Red Caboose HO model as an example.  They also do one with an orange body and black door.  Did the two versions first appear at the same time or at different times?

Much appreciated!

Smokebox did decals for the orange one. http://smokeboxgraphics.com/decalspre2k.html

The instructions cover some of that info I think.

Interestingly I photographed one of these cars in work service on CN near Blue River BC in 2004.  They definitely had a long life.  I'll have to dig up those photos.

Looks just like a Union Pacific CA class caboose.  You may have an easier time finding a broadside photo of one of those.  The photo I have of a UP CA class caboose is just like the OSL photo, not a true broadside.

Cool to see a Canadian Northern car in a 1926 image.

As far as the inflammable placard, it might be in regard to another load in this car. Especially if this is carrying LCL.

I'll bet you didn't know maple sugar could burst into flames. Probably good for pancakes flambé.

Hey Bob,  Here is a photo of an OSL wood caboose I hope you can use.  It is not a broadside view, but is not a full 3/4 view either.  The side boards do show up nicely, though.

Presumably, the INFLAMMABLE placard is left over from some other load in that car.  Or, did I miss the tongue-in-cheek nature of the original post?
