A quick glance and that second boxcar over from the Canadian National appeared for an instant to be a G &D boxcar. Of course on closer look it's C&O.

You’re partly off the hook, Todd. Most resin kits don’t end up with operating doors so no interior decals required, but we need to speak to you about those trucks and the markings on the air reservoirs . . .

Re: FARMALL TRACTOR DECALS
Nelson Moyer
With all this talk of tractor loads, I'm wondering if there were regional followings for either Farmall red or John Deere green. I remember seeing mostly red in Indiana in the 1940 and 1950 on visits to the grandparent's farm. With plants in Moline and Waterloo, would John Deere be more prevalent in Iowa than Farmall? More specifically, could I expect more flat car loads of green than red arriving on an Eastern Iowa branch line?

Car knocker will bad order that car, no couplers!
The car in not in it's natural habitat. This car had a Duryea underframe. I'm waiting for an order of Kadee 197s. Those are the ones with the narrow boxes because the boxes will stick out a ways passed the ends. I'll have a photo of the car on the layout when the couplers arrive. Thanks!! CW Propst

Clark, Give it your best. couplers, lift bars and all. I got the virus reduction in force from the auto parts store. SO it looks like PanPastel Blog Guy is my new occupation. That and weathering for money at the local Trains and Sub sandwich store. The owner is former UP and he and several customers are Rock Island modelers. Rob Manley

Super modeling job Ed. Looking at the photo the only clue that it is model is the coupler trip pin. Great weathering. The setting is the same quality as the model.
Just what I would hope to achieve.

I have a question on seat color. As I remember the Formal 300 we had, had a plastic like cover that was silver in color.

Great information!!
However, I don't think I'm going to start decalling the reporting marks on the inside of my model boxcars! I don't decal the trucks and underframe and insides of doors, either! Todd (there are limits!) Sullivan.

Good point . . . and I've found this very useful when determining the heritage of a "repurposed" car. Attached photo shows what was probably the last surviving Ann Arbor 74000-series boxcar. It was being used as a storage shed in the city DPW yard in Cadillac Michigan. The original car number was stenciled on the inside above the door opening. STMFC trivia: this car was THE prototype for the Speedwitch resin kit. Ted Culotta borrowed the drawings that Arnt Gerritsen made from our measurements and photos taken that day. Craig Wilson

Re: HO Scale Grab Irons
Bob,
Given that the prototype RR-27 had simple grab irons, your best bet is to use wire grabs as has been suggested. If the C&BT kits do not include the attachment bolts, simply drill a hole just above the grab and add a nbw casting.

Re: Greg Martin
Armand,
The news from Facebook is that Greg is making slow progress in the right direction. As with many severe CoV patients, it seems like 2 steps forward, 1.9 steps back. I believe he is still intubated although that might change today. His body has taken a lot of
abuse and his recovery will be long and slow.

Tractor loads
Well here are a few shots that I took in September of 1963. I was stationed in Charleston SC and my wife was living in Conway in an apartment at her Grandmothers house. I was home on weekend liberty and was taking photos of the local RR scene. Hindsight being what it is can you believe these are the photos I got. Where was my head? I didn't know then (age 20) that I'd be a prototype modeler someday). So I missed the cool shots of the IC flat being unloaded at the depot. My bad but here are a few of what I did get.

Also note the curved platform/dock construction. First time I have noticed a dock with the decking lumber running lengthwise. An interesting item to model.

Don’t forget to look at the STEAM ERA FREIGHT CARS in the background. I don’t recall seeing an ALTON car very often. First fully shown car to the left. Any commentary about that car from the learned among us?
WRT the seats being tipped backwards . . . protecting the cushioned side from rain? Not very effective if so but better than letting the depressed seats fill with water . . .
