Speedwitch SR Gon Kit
paulbizier <pa.bizier@...>
I'm working through the "round tuit" stack of stuff in my closet, and this is up next. Unfortunately, Ted's directions don't make any truck recommendations. Do any of our "truck experts" have suggestions for appropriate trucks?
TIA, Paul Bizier

Pete, Is there any info on when these cars were built? I looked through the '43 ORER and CP, CN, and GTW all list refeers with steel underframes and 42'6" outside length, and all of them have notes about unique characteristics (GTW was meat racks), multi-stage icing, underslung charcoal heaters, etc. They also had a 75,000 pound capacity - more than many similar sized reefers the roads had at that time. Are these the cars? I am trying to determine if they are valid WWII cars. Thanks, Dave Evans

Can anyone confirm that the whole series that included SLSF XM 18050 was equipped with Ajax hand brakes?

Re: 46 ft. Flatcars?
Jeffrey White
According to the 1954 Freight Car Diagram book for the IC, they had a number of 45 foot flat cars running yet. The diagram shows 200 numbers (6100-61199) but I have no idea how many were still running. Built in 1929 by Bett. Co.

Forgot to mention, in N scale, Model Power makes a car that is a good match for C&NW 42597. It has crude details, but then upgrading the details is part of the fun! - Claus

Train Art by Tony Howe
Allen Cain <allencain@...>
Folks,
Up front I want to say that I have NO financial or personal ties to Tony Howe. Today I received a print he produced of the Southern Railway Tennessean in 1947. This is an artist print but I had to look at it several times to convince myself that it was not a photograph. The quality is exceptional. Here is a link to his studio site where he has this print and others for various roads for sale at what I consider to be reasonable prices: http://www.msrailroads.com/Paintings4.htm From this link, you can back up into his full gallery of prints. I think that he, like many other of us, myself included, is now unemployed. He is now offering some of his Railroad prints on Ebay. This link will take you to his current listings: http://shop.ebay.com/dhbjda/m.html?_nkw= <http://shop.ebay.com/dhbjda/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p434 0> &_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 As I said, I am not connected to him in any way other than as a customer who was VERY impressed with the one example of his work which I purchased on Ebay. Why did you feel a need to "correct" Steve? Steve didn't say it was surprising, just that it went far. In the message I read Steve didn't comment on the likelihood, frequency or possibility that a NYC box car was in British Columbia. My sense of distances has the distance between British Columbia and the nearest NYC tracks in the "far" category. All Steve said was "went far." Gene Green

You are not alone ! While waiting is frustrating, I've found that the wait is always worth it with Ted's products. I'm sure there are many irons in the fire and they will be announced when he is ready. 1 to 3 workers just don't produce as fast as an overseas factory with 2000 pair of hands. Fred Freitas

Disclaimer--As a working railroader, I often find myself tired and cranky, as one can get when being woken at the hotel at 2.45 am to go to work--and have to put that resin STMFC that I've been working on back into my grip. Long ago, I developed thick skin and broad shoulders. Both have proven useful and essential. However, it's not my goal to stir up controversy on this board. But I'm not afraid to wade into it, either. Truth be known, I tripped over this photo while looking for something else. And wished to share it with the board. All the best, Steve Lucas.

Steve, Interesting photo, but I'm sorry, there is nothing surprising about finding a NYC boxcar "far from home". Its late and I'm tired and so I'm probably cranky, but how often do we have to say this???? Boxcars basically operated in a national pool... OK, so this car is in Canada and thus US car numbers would be lower, but since NYC has one of the largest boxcar fleets in North America, there should be little surprise that one would show up almost ANYWHERE on contiguous rails. The car is most likely carrying a shipment from the US to BC, but that shipment could just have easily originated in Seattle or anywhere else as somewhere on NYC rails. Regards Bruce Smith temporarily and grogily from Naperville Il
