Why did you feel a need to "correct" Steve? Steve didn't say it was surprising, just that it went far. In the message I read Steve didn't comment on the likelihood, frequency or possibility that a NYC box car was in British Columbia. My sense of distances has the distance between British Columbia and the nearest NYC tracks in the "far" category. All Steve said was "went far." Gene Green

Disclaimer--As a working railroader, I often find myself tired and cranky, as one can get when being woken at the hotel at 2.45 am to go to work--and have to put that resin STMFC that I've been working on back into my grip. Long ago, I developed thick skin and broad shoulders. Both have proven useful and essential. However, it's not my goal to stir up controversy on this board. But I'm not afraid to wade into it, either. Truth be known, I tripped over this photo while looking for something else. And wished to share it with the board. All the best, Steve Lucas.

Steve, Interesting photo, but I'm sorry, there is nothing surprising about finding a NYC boxcar "far from home". Its late and I'm tired and so I'm probably cranky, but how often do we have to say this???? Boxcars basically operated in a national pool... OK, so this car is in Canada and thus US car numbers would be lower, but since NYC has one of the largest boxcar fleets in North America, there should be little surprise that one would show up almost ANYWHERE on contiguous rails. The car is most likely carrying a shipment from the US to BC, but that shipment could just have easily originated in Seattle or anywhere else as somewhere on NYC rails. Regards Bruce Smith temporarily and grogily from Naperville Il

[CDN-frt-cars-n-ops] 8 Hatch Canadian Reefers
PBowers
I never noticed this being mentioned on this list but True Line Trains has announced the release of at least two versions of the Canadian overhead eight hatch steel refrigerator cars. The CN cars will have the regular reefer doors and the CP cars will have plug doors. There is no indication yet if they will do the CP regular door or CN plug door versions. Pacific Great Eastern BC Railway and Grand Trunk Western versions are also in the cars to be released.
Peter Bowers The following from Canadian Freight Car group <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CDN-frt-cars-n-ops/> by Darren at TLT: So.... here is the scoop people.... I was hoping to get the samples here for the iHobby show to release the same time as the ad was printed... which, of course, didn't happen. We're very excited about this. A few things to note about the car: 1 - really detailed, I mean, really. 2 - version correct doors (thats PLUG and HINGED for those out there who are where I was a few months ago) 3 - version correct brake wheels/housing. Yeah, you heard right. UNIVERSAL or AJAX will come on your RTR kit. Want to do the rebuild? We are offering the brake wheel kits seperately. 4 - brand spankin' new charcoal heater. This was a pain in the butt to get right because they are so hard to come by. Don't worry - we got you covered. 5 - photo-etch walkway (or wooden walkway depending on version) 6 - photo-etch brake platform 7 - TLT TRU-MATE couplers, if you don't like them, you can try the Rapido ones, they are much better.... 8 - TLT metal wheels and detailed trucks 9 - real chain (as on the brake chain) 10 - version correct (CN and CP) hatches 11 - drip tubes...yeah, I think I found the only photo where they weren't ripped off....but...I did them! 12 - version correct liquidomoter (single and double) 13 - Due out in spring 2010 14 - CN, CP and PGE/BCOL assortments. 15 - GTW versions as well 16 - Some people on the group saw the drawings, and their feedback has been very positive. I am hoping to get rapid prototype samples here mid November in time for the Toronto Christmas train show, so modellers can get an idea of what they will look like. Cheers, Darren --- avast! We can custom produce your EJ&E box car decals?
Bob McCarthy
Elden,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
We can custom produce any decal required in any scale if there is a sharp image and a known dimension of the car or locomotive. You will receive a quote on a minimum order that consists of art cost for creating the decal artwork. Then you will be provided the each price for one car which is based on a minimum of one 8 1/2" x 11" sheet. The price of the sheet would be divided by the number of copies of the decal in question that can be placed upon the sheet. Please send an email attachement of your desired decal to thesupplycar@yahoo.com for quote. Given you mention various color combinations, please provide a well registered color image of each version that you want. It is an Microsoft Office 2007 Word document (note the ending "x" on the file extension). Office2007 designed for Vista, is not backwards compatible. you either need to acquire a third party translator or haveWord 2007 to open and read the document.BTW, I run this Office 07 version under XP. I think XP was a tower on the ERIE in Steam days, which controlled the movement of steam freight cars. No? I'm surprised! OK I have (whimper) Office 2007 (what a terrible devolution of a already flawed program!!) and it
did not open for me, so it's not just the Office 07 issue that is going on here. SGL Can't open the document, Mike. Hello: In going through a B&M freight conductors wheel report dated Jun 1920, I ran into a reporting mark GET. I know that represents an unassigned USRA owned freight car. In this case I found two of them, both boxcars in the same train. The first was GET 2139 carrying boxes. The other was GET 21100 and it was carrying ice. I didn't think GET cars would show up in revenue service. Could anyone clarify this for me? Thanks, Al Campbell
