Stripping paint is my usual use, sometimes just lifting lettering. As for local stores, Publix supermarket, Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS. I also priced Everclear ethyl alcohol but for only 75%, it was way too costly. Chuck Peck

Traditional is tissue paper (gift wrap) with a light coat of model airplane dope. Or aluminum foil that is painted tarp color

I have a more or less cylindrical styrene item, but with compound curves, that I want to wrap snugly (not like a draped tarp) for use as a flatcar load. I've thought about shrink wrap, but I am concerned about the heat melting the item. Does anyone have any experience with using shrink wrap over a styrene item? Can anyone suggest an alternative? 82001 may be one of the cars Clark is seeking. The cars the MSTL acquired in 1941 were built in 1913 as double sheathed wood cars with fish belly underframes. They are reported to have “Mogul” ends.

Strike that....tank cars could be for molasses for cattle feed, which means this factory could be a sugar refinery. I have since found photos of a large sugar factory at Drayton N.D. that looked a bit like this. Was there anything similar at Grand Forks?

Forget the tank cars....check out that amazing brick building! Any idea what was produced there? The nearest tank has 'LIVE STOCK FEED' painted on the side so I'm guessing some kind of meat packing plant?

And at the end of the day, that's what this wonderful hobby is all about. I reckon we should never cringe at such a sight, we should only take pride in the fact that we know better and give thanks for the good people who write books and take the time to teach us. Once upon a time I was only dimly aware of what equipment belonged to which era and now I can make a fairly accurate estimation of the start and end dates of a particular paint scheme for the railroads around my chosen area....it all comes down to experience.

This might be essentially the same problem, but heat shrink tubing comes in pretty big sizes - and colors.

Yes, Tom, we did have this conversation, and that was the general conclusion. But I’ve thought about this for quite a while, and I believe that it works both ways. IF a manufacturer puts that information on the box and it fulfills my desires, I am definitely GOING TO BUY it, not in the least because they have provided the information. What I mean by that is I would support the manufacturer for having provided the information even if I might have only limited use for the model on my railroad.
I also think it’s worth having this conversation periodically to make it clear to the manufacturers that we (admittedly small market segment) really want this information.
I don’t mean to waste time and list resources, but still . . .
