Yep, as I said, the reason the Lackawanna altered hoppers with steeper slope sheets came back to me. It was so they could be used for cement service. That accomplished both of the issues you mention,

The Lackawanna did this too. Unfortunately, I do not remember exactly why. It might surface after a while. You could ID the cars that had this done after they were de-converted by a line of empty rive
