They all had that interesting stencil Tony... Another thing - the cars built in January 1952 (instead of December 1951) had a change in the builder's stencil! :-)

Here is a better view of the white stripe on an SP XMR car repainted in 1958. This car also has the 'combination' roof for stowage of the interior automobile rack.

I think that was a resin vendor who offered a 70 ton AAR flat car model that was far easier to build than the SUNSHINE kit but then Intermountain introduced a very good plastic RTR model...

I am just too sad right now. I've lost a friend I knew for almost 30 years. Bill had many passions and railroads and fantastically good modeling were just two of them. :'(

I think WHITE WALL tires were wrapped - Nobody would buy a blemished white wall, except at a deep discount.

as for the assortment of road names, MP SP CG were all in nearby states not far from home. the double doors could be useful for stick lumber, plywood, or furniture - but not 'automobile' cars at this

Probably series 90000 to 99999 - yes, UTLX really did have THOUSANDS of these cars! But of course they were on hundreds of different leases.

I think the Northern gives it away. ;-) What is that wood pattern on the car sides called? It doesn't look like board by board siding. Novelty siding maybe?

Real or no?
Ahem. These so-called "bans" were not outright bans -- Cars with "outlawed" equipment were simply not approved for UNRESTRICTED INTERCHANGE. Railroads could voluntarily continue to use such equipment
