MILW 50-ft rib side box cars from Fox Valley
Regarding Des Plaines Hobbies stock of Rib Side Cars, I would call them to see if they have what you need in stock. The last time I looked (5 weeks ago) they had about 25 kits on the shelf. Regards, M

gons containing coal
Ed, I haven't looked through my photos, but there are many in the 1947-9 Monon conductor logs I have. Out of the 537 cars loaded with coal 107 were gons. Of those 107, 27 were Monon cars and the rest

Interesting Photo of a Box Car and Load
Good eyes, Bill, I missed that completely. The car, though, is from an earlier series 17000-18139 built in the 1910s with wood ends, not the 1923 built 8000 series SU clones with steel t-section ends.

Monon gondola spiral ends - the Shops
Richard, Paul is correct that the Shops was the name of Chad's Monon model business. As a Monon modeler myself, I benefited a great deal from his creativity and I have too many of his kits to count. C

Jim, Besides what you'll need for heralds and railroad specific text, there are a few decal sets meant for the data on a derrick and tender. The first sets are from Tichy: -9010 Black, Roman -9110 Whi

Bill, Thank you for the great link. This photo features a trio of Pennsy hoppers one of which looks like the elusive H27: http://photogrammar.research.yale.edu/photos/service/pnp/fsa/8b36000/8b36300/8

House car structure
The depth of the member doesn't necessary mean more strength in bending. In other words you can have two girders with different depths, but the same strength. Different strength (thickness or material

MONON box cars
Al, It is not showing up in the first ORER you mention because the build date is 4/47, not 42. These were the Monon's first 50 foot boxcars. As I mentioned, they were renumbered out of the 1200 series

IC hom e-built ri veted PS-1 40f t boxc ars (was: PS-# intro dates‏)
The Monon cars are from June 1947. They are relatively easy to model with a Branchline car and a chisel blade to get the side rivets off. As an aside, the boys from PS would come and look at the Monon
