Bob That's the brake service date - "LT" probably means "lube & test" in that context. The general shop date stencil is for 1951 as well, but this is clearly a car built in the 1930's.

When did B&M start with blue/ black paint scheme?
Patrick B. McGinnis controlled the B&M about April 1955 and left the New Haven. Herbert Matter designed both New Haven and B&M schemes. I do not know what B&M P&L drawings may say on dates for the box

Bill said there was data that was not in the Ted's book, but what about RPC's 18 and 24? Just curious, if there is unique data, it would be great if Ted authorized posting the PDF somewhere. Don Burn

Flat Car Chains, Was: Poultry Car Tarps
The chain and hook, apparently on both sides of the coupler, on the flat car caught my eye. I speculate the car was used in some sort of logging service where the chains would have prevented a train b

Not too far from where I grew up in Jersey City. As mentioned, grain handling creates a lot of dust. And we all know silos have been known to blow up. Wondering if a freight car ever did ??? Andy Brus
