The CNJ regularly hauled sand out of the Vineland, NJ and Millville, NJ areas in 52' gondolas. The sand was just piled in the car - CNJ employees would joke that SJ-2 looked like a rolling sandstorm.

What methods do you use to add weight to an empty flatcar?
I recently completed an F&C Rutland flat which I filled the area within the center sill with sheet lead. With metal trucks it tracks well. Drew Marshall, Philly, PA Modeling the pre-Depression years.

MEK Substitute and current plastic cements

Don, I can't give you an exact date off the top of my head but the "America's Largest..." herald was introduced in the early 1950s on an order of offset side, two bay hoppers. Cars rebuilt received it
