IM R-40-19's

David Ball

Hi Guys

More PFE model question. This time about the IM assembles R-40-19's

All that I've seen has the build date listed as 1942. Is this a promotional
error that continued through, or does the model have the erroneous rebuild
date?

Also, I'm I right in thinking that the ladders should be black?

Ta (again)

As this rebuild class was done during 1944-1945, the 1942 date is obviously wrong. I don't know if the IM cars will have a correct "built date," but the 1944-45 dates are REBUILD dates. PFE normally showed both on such cars.
Ladders should be black for a car with paint prior to 1949.

David,

When did IM start assembling R-40-19's? All I can find on their
website is the R-30-18 (along w/ the R-40-23, R-40-10, and R-40-25).

Thanks,

-Jeff

Item 47410 is the R-40-19 though it's listed under Pacific Freight Enterprises R-30-18.

Guys, Take note that all of the road numbers for the Intermountain R-40-19's
are incorrect, except the first one in the series, #62537. The re-build date
is wrong and the ladders should also be black, I think as Tony Thompson pointed
out.

No Andy, Intermountain has done what they call "R-40-19 Refrigerator Car" and
it is carried as their product number 47410. It is Terry's R-30-18 kit with
an apex metal roofwalk and a little different paint scheme. A little different
paint and a metal roof walk is essentilly the only difference betweem the -18
and the -19, so I am not sure what Terry would be doing to "create" a new -19
kit. Anyway they butcher this run with errors just like they did all the -18
models except for the one run they got right.

Should'nt that be R-30-18, As far as I know, no one
makes a RTR R-40-19, though Terry Wegmann has
indicated a willingnes to tool the parts to make one
in HO scale, but it is too early to call them
"Incorrect"

IM has made a version they market as a R-40-19. It is this one:
http://www.imrcmodels.com/distrib/pfe/html/47410.htm

Maybe its is just a R-30-18 with a R-40-19 badge?

Thanks for guys the additional info and confirming my initial suspicions

If Andy is correct regarding the lack of a R-40-19 model, it sounds like
these are fantasy models

Cheers

Thanks Paul

I thought that was the only meaningful difference, but I thought I would let
those who know more than me comment!

Anyway, the model is still significantly wrong, which is what I was trying
to ascertain.

David, I would not say the model is "significantly wrong" except for the road
numbers. I have IM 47410-01, which is the only correct road number, #62537.
Paint the side ladders black and change the rebuild date to 4-44 and it is dead
on. Changing the road numbers to make them correct on the rest of the IM
series is probably more trouble than its worth.
