If that artwork on the link Doug sent previously indicates what some of those cars (specifically the CV vans) look like, I'd avoid them.

Marty,
I've had the good fortune to see the photos of the preproduction
models of the vans in question and the artwork on the website doesn't
even begin to do them justice.

So Pierre, are you saying the cupolas and side windows on the CV cars correct? There's been a lot of confusion about that, and I'm only trying to get a straight answer.

Marty,
Sorry, no. I'm in no posistion to comment about the CV cars specifically.
Rather I found that the art work in general on the website for all of
their offerings tended to give the models a more toylike appearance
than the finshed product really has.
I apologize if my comment was misleading.

Marty, I believe that preproduction model photos of the CN vans are
available on the Canadian Model Trains website: modeltrains.com. You
must register on the site to see them, IIRC. It's been a few months
since I've seen the pix, but this is my recollection.

I had the preproduction CN caboose at Naperville last October. It will
be the most accurate RTR model caboose on the market. It is a model of
ONE class of CN cabooses. The details are of a 1950s era, wood stove
etc. If you are a CN modeller you will want to sell some of your
brass models. The application of CV lettering to this model would be
bogus and ill advised. The CV was quite different.

Allen,

Thanks for the update.

There was a rumor at one time (likely based on a caption in Ed Beaudette's CV book showing a CN van "somewhere on the CV") that if a train running on the CV had CN power, it had a CN van. I don't believe this was the case, while I've seen plenty of shots showing the head end of a train with CN diesels with a CV van in tow, I've never seen a photo of a CN van in service (we're talking 1955 and earlier here, more modern times saw lots of CN vans) on the CV below St. Albans.

Anyway, I'll still likely get one of the True Trains vans -- I'm not modeling St. Albans, but it will look nice in the display case!

Completely different topic, and I feel a little silly asking this -- does anyone know the status of the InterMountain FGE refrigerator car in HO scale? I haven't seen them out yet.
