Modeler's support of freight car models

Could it just be a geographical thing?After doing an analysis of a large number of wheel reports few if any WP cars appear.As a result,I do not have many WP cars.I use this study,if you will,as a shopping list.Armand Premo

Yet, sadly, we still can't get an accurate GN 12 panel box car in either 10'
0" or 10' 6" heights with contemporary quality.

As a long time WP modeler... I agree fully. I dropped out of the WP forum
on Yahoogroups a long time ago as it was clear to me the group as a whole
seemed to beleive the WP was built about 1975 and only owned diesel
locomotives. 1970 was ancient history... unless of course it was about the
CZ and then special dispensation was given to discuss green glass at great
length. Freight cars? Never saw them. Industries served? None (too close
to the truth there).

It's a real shame as the WP did have many interesting freight cars in all
eras. In the steam days they had 300 or so clones of the SP's H-50-5 class
of open top hoppers (HK), a tiny little thing that might have looked right
on some narrow gauge line, a fleet of C channel side braced GS gons, and
those great looking steel framed, wood roofed (w/ canvas covers), short
boxcars -- so many of which became a caboose or MOW cars --, IIRC 7' 11" IH.
I believe a bunch of these were retained for bulk gypsum service w/ hatches
cut in the roof... I don't know if they ever got cast sideframe trucks. And
that 50' auto car nicely done in HO by MDC.

Post war brought a rapid transition to modern cars, many of which had their
own interesting features -- 46' GS gons for instance.

Fundamentally tho, most of what you'd see in the hobby shop would be off
road most oftheir lives, wandering in service elsewhere, and what you'd see
in local service hasn't ever been available to modelers.

Another one is T&NO. Amazingly slight support, which is a shame for such an interesting railroad and an essential part of the SP.

Yup, GN is definitely among the roads "modelers like," as a hobby store owner would say. Probably it's that terrific goat emblem, one of the finest railroad emblems, in my estimation.

I think Microscale has a decal sheet for those, if you want to
do several road numbers. The cars got dirty fast, so it should
not be hard to hide the renumber.
