David Smith

Thanks to all for the great advice. I have a couple of the recommended
books already and will look for the others.

David,

Hold on to your wallet until you can find the better
quality volumes on the NYC.
Try one of the booksellers in RMC, MR , etc. to locate what you
are seeking.

Anyone know the NYC book in the MBI Railroad Color
History series by Brian
Solomon and Mike Schafer? Is it a useful steam/transition era
reference? I
am modeling part of the NYC Adirondack branch, so I'd love to know
if there
is a variety of lines or if it is all Water Level Route. Thanks!

David,

You might try looking for the Hudson River Divn volumes. IIRc they have items for Adirondak service in them. There is a separate book on the RR's of the Adirondak region which will have a lot of ideas for you regarding interchange, etc.. Good Hunting...

You can tell it's the holiday season when a PRR fan helps a NYC fan.
