I checked my earlier ORERs, and found that the series was NOT in the January 1938 issue, but WAS in the January 1940. While there were at least a couple thousand boxcars with similar dimensions in both years, the 60000-60005 series was the only one with a 60000 pound capacity. Larry, what's a bit mysterious is that there are no 60000-60005 series cars in my 1935 ORER. The

closest we come is 60130-60204 (8 cars), all 34'-2" long, but some have slightly different lengths, widths, and capy. There are three series up to 60279, total 17 cars, and they are all RS. There are also 37 banana cars, 60825-60949, and 125 produce cars, 66000-66199. Perhaps the 60000-60005 series represents the last five cars in 1945 from this list of what appear to be left-over mongrels from earlier times, renumbered so as to clear out some series? I suspect these are all double sheathed, but can offer no proof. SGL -----Original Message----- |
