GTW 11/2 door Single sheathed boxcar

Marty McGuirk

Forgot to add the car shown (by the way, the pre-restoration pics of
the cars with four-digit numbers and the finished restoration of 43022
are the same car). 43022 had it's roof raised a four inches to
accommodate Evans auto loaders and at point. The 1-1/2 door cars had
the same ends, just without the obvious raised section on the ends.

In my N scale days I built one of these cars with the idea of casting
it. Need to see if I can dig that model out - I don't remember how I
did it other than I used an Intermountain piece for the auto door end
and I used M-T doors.

The car shown in the link is an HO scale resin kit made by F&C
(originally sold by Steam Shack, currently available from F&C).

Here are some photos of the ends - it's usually easier to locate
photos of these cars by searching under "CV" instead of "GTW"

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=809280

Hope these help - I need to get back to work.

The difference in this car model, was that the car had Youndstown
doors, but the end of the car in the photo could not be seen. The

Where did you see the picture? If it's online a link would help.

I don't have my reference material at work but that number sounds
like it's one of the c 1928 cars built for the Central Vermont
and
GTW. It might be a CV car that was transferred to the GTW.

Ed Beaudette did an article in MR a few years ago that included
prototype drawings of the CV/GTW 1-1/2 door as built cars (CV's
41000-
series). Not sure about the accuracy of the Mainline drawings
Dennis
referred to but I do know the drawings in MR were based on
prototype
drawings and confirmed with field measurements of three surviving
cars.

Guys,
For others wishing to see GTW #583699, a photo of it appeared in the 1931
Car Builders Cyclopedia on page 131. It was reprinted in the Train shed
Cyclopedia #3 also. It appears to have a 3-3-3 dreadnaught end supplied at that
time by Union Metal Products (which would later morphs into Standard Railway
Equipment Co). I'm pretty sure I can come up with a Union Metal products ad
showing this end in detail if anyone would want a scan of it off site.
The car also have a lever style hand brake. It's hard to tell from the
photo which brand, possibly a Klasing or Miner.
