Hypodermic tubing

Schuyler Larrabee

Ted Culotta refers to hypodermic tubing in his articles. I have come across an application that may
make sense. OK, so where does one find this stuff? I believe that ownership of hypodermic syringes
is still illegal in Massachusetts . . .

Try a local home medical supply firm. Some deal with insulin and similar products. If its the flexible tubing you are referring to they should have that as well. There are various sizes of flexible tubing used for oxygen systems and breathing treatment machines for in home use. If its the syringe bodies you need, they may be allowed to sell those to you without the needles (maybe).

Thanks, Kurt. What an amazing array of sizes and lengths, and not very expensive either! The
comment about illegality was based on the idea that obtaining them by means of getting syringes is a
non-starter here. Alternate sources is what I was looking for.

OK, the next question is, how does one cut off very short lengths of this without crushing it?

Schuyler,

I haven't had to cut mine yet but my plan was to insert wire inside so it won't crush when cutting. I would probably use a cutoff wheel.

Schuyler,

Small-diameter stainless steel tubing is available in many hobby shops from a firm called Ngineering. See page 900 in the 2010 Walthers HO catalog. It isn't called "hypodermic," but why should we care about that?

So long,

Andy

Andy::

Not sure if the rest of list are aware but Small Parts (www.smallparts.com) has this in abundance. Smallest I could find is 35 gauge (,0053" OD).

Hi Vince,

I know about Small Parts Inc. and use that source quite a bit. I just think Ngineering offers an alternative that some of us, at least, might find in our own locales.

Thanks,

Andy
