Hi All, My first post, hope all goes well. In a recent B&MRRHS news letter article,Dwight Smith mentions that new autos were shipped from Tarrytown, NY to No. New England in NYC automobile cars. Any one know if an HO model is correct or close for this? Thanks in advance, Carl Roberts

There are several NYC auto box cars available for this era. Without a road number, photo or dimensional info, would be hard to match it up. If you can find out any more info, I can try to go from there. Rich Christie --- On Sun, 1/31/10, mecfan1953 <eagleu18b@...> wrote:

The 50' double door automobile box car from Proto 2000 would be fine for your purpose. They were released as kits and ready to run with 6 road numbers each when originally released. The original NYC releases were painted box car red which will suit the 1952 era. Other later releases from Proto, were painted in Century green, which would not be appropriate for 1952. Carl and Robert, Be careful here, the original P2k automobile box cars came
in the as built scheme with a black background in the NYC oval. This was in use until early 1944. Starting in march of 1944 the black background was removed. These cars were built in 1939 or 1941 (if I recall correctly) so by 1952 many would have been repainted. Some railroads also removed the "Automobiles" lettering from the sides of the cars post war, but I am not sure about the NYC. I don't think P2k did the later scheme without the black background or the 1955-1959 gothic scheme. if they did I'd like to know. Brian J. Carlson, P.E. Cheektowaga NY From: STMFC@...
