Group, my father just showed me the best trick of all time for avoiding breakage of drill bits. Once your bit is in the vise, dip it in beeswax. Drilling then goes 3x as fast, and I have yet to break a bit using this technique. Have tried it with many sizes down to no. 80. Beeswax available from Caboose Hobbies, Micro Mark, elsewhere.

I've had a lot of success pressing a drill bit into a bar of soap as a drill lube. So that's what the extrea soap is for in hotel rooms!
