New from WrightTRAK

Guys

We at WrightTRAK are pleased to announce the introduction of a new freight car. At the show in Naperville we will be selling our new HO scale resin X29D kit. This kit features our usual one piece body and a separate underframe. This kit also includes the correct Bowser trucks, Kadee grabs, roofwalk and brake wheel. Tichy ladders and brake gear are also included. We decided NOT to do custom decals for this car due to the fact that Microscale has the correct ones available. This would have also added about $6.00 to the cost of the kit and we felt that having the kit priced at $55.00 or more would be a deal killer.

We will also be taking reservations for our upcoming Seaboard Air Line V9 ventilated boxcar. This car will feature all of our normal features as well as a very comprehensive set of decals and correct Andrews trucks.

Please stop by our table at Naperville and visit with us. We will have the PRR cars for sale as well as items from our stock.

Also, we would like to thank the guys at the PRRH&TS for their invaluable assistance with the X29D project. Without their help and support this project would have not been possible.

I will post a photo of this car to the groups photo section shortly. Until then, if interested in seeing this car, please let me know and I will get a photo to you.

Guys

It has been brought to our attention that there is a slight defect in the roof of the new PRR car...And, there is. That is a problem. Now, we have the cure. We are going to sell the cars at Naperville as is. Those that find the problem objectionable will get replacement car bodies sent to them. Our supplier, Smoky Mountain Model Works, has admitted to the problem and already has started production on new bodies to take care of the problem. We hope to have a limited number of new body castings available to us at the show on Friday. If you purchase one of the cars and want the new, replacement body, we will need to get your mailing address and will take care of the problem with a week to ten days. That is, at this time, the best we can do.

I would like to thank Tim O'Connor for bringing this matter to our attention and enabling us to handle this in such a manner.

Again, we look forward to meeting all of you folks at Naperville. Be sure to stop by and visit with us.

Good morning Jerry and Group,

First, Jerry, thank you for the efforts regarding a CK decal set for the upcoming WrightTRAK PRR X29D.

Second, not being a PRR fan or having any knowledge hidden away on my library shelves, just what are the dates that these cars were first rebuilt and entered service?

Thanks,

I'm not a Pennsy modeler either and we (undisclosed accompllces) though it would be a good idea but apparantly there were detail differences in the early cars with the CK scheme that pretty much rule it out. We'll check further and post here if it's a go. In the meantime, the mentioned Microscale set is good for the SK scheme. Denis sent me a pic of a PC one,but that is beyond the scope of this forum.

Hi Bill,

I also know very little about the Pennsy. But I remembered that there's somebody with a whole bunch of Pennsy freight car info on his website. Google revealed that it is http://prr.railfan.net/freight/classpage.html?class=X29

I hope this helps.

First rebuilds were late '51 or early '52 (I am drawing a blank) and
appearing in one group of 1000 mid-'52. Those may have had ends different
than later rebuilds, but no one on the Committee has seen any definitive
photos yet of the first group to be sure of how it was equipped, other than
one fuzzy 3/4 which does not show it well enough, but still clearly enough in
Circle Key lettering, and a nice side shot I have of a later repaint. There
was a much large group rebuilt c.1955, and this was as-built, in Shadow
Keystone lettering.

You need to make your own assessment of whether it meets your needs or not,
but as a Pennsy modeler, I have been looking for this car for a LONG time,
and as a significant class rebuild of large numbers, could have been seen
most anywhere. There were numbers in general service, but also in assigned
service for appliance loading, auto parts and furniture. There was also a
group painted in the "one class only" "Don't Stand Me Still" sub-lettering,
which provides another unique scheme that has never been applied to an
accurate car, any time, ever.....

Now that it is being discussed publicly, I can say that the model itself
looks very nice.

The Kalmbach reprint of the January 1953 ORER (PRR's report dated 10/31/1952)
lists 585 X29d boxcars in the series 25501 - 26500.  The 10/31/53  PRR section
of the January 1954 ORER on Jerry Britton's Keystone Crossings website lists 997
X29d cars in the same series.

Later information shows the series extended down to 23600 to 26500.

My PRRT&HS Keystone magazines are tucked away so I can't elaborate right now.

Hello Elden and Group,

I like this car. As I model and operate daily except Sunday in 1953 -- that is, each operating session is the next day in the year of 1953 -- an early X29D would be a good addition to the mix of freight cars. As you write, it looks like I will have to make my own assessment if this car meets the needs of my operation.

Thanks for your input.

X29D first appeared in the ORER in April 1952 issue for PRR that means they were "new" in January 1952 (PRR ORER listings are 3 months behind the date of issue). The first 1000 cars were delivered by mid 1953. These were delivered in the circle keystone scheme. While the number series assigned to the class provided for 2900 cars, I have not seen an ORER showing more than 2880 cars. Doesn't mean that other 20 were never received. Just I have not seen a number that high. The shadow keystone was first applied in Feb 1954 to the 10 X48 (PS1). New cars delivered after that date would most likely be shadow keystone cars.

The important question is were any of these painted with the "calendar" style road numbers which were applied for a very short period of time about 6 months in 1954.

Rich, Elden,

I am not real clear on what is being said in this tread. I now understand the first X29D's were probably "new" January 1952, but is this 1952 prototype of different physical characteristics (other tha paint) then the WrightTrak model being discussed.

The important question is were any of these painted with the "calendar" style road numbers which were applied for a very short period of time about 6 months in 1954.

Good morning Jerry and Group,

First, Jerry, thank you for the efforts regarding a CK decal set for the
upcoming WrightTRAK PRR X29D.

Second, not being a PRR fan or having any knowledge hidden away on my library
shelves, just what are the dates that these cars were first rebuilt and entered
service?

Thanks,
Bill Keene

Guys

We at WrightTRAK are pleased to announce the introduction of a new freight
car. At the show in Naperville we will be selling our new HO scale resin X29D
kit. This kit features our usual one piece body and a separate underframe. This
kit also includes the correct Bowser trucks, Kadee grabs, roofwalk and brake
wheel. Tichy ladders and brake gear are also included. We decided NOT to do
custom decals for this car due to the fact that Microscale has the correct ones
available. This would have also added about $6.00 to the cost of the kit and we
felt that having the kit priced at $55.00 or more would be a deal killer.

Paul,

Apparently some think so. As Elden said, clear photographs of the first 1000 cars showing the ends are hard to find. There is some indication that the ends of the first 1000 cars were different from the last 200 cars. Absent photographs the only other way to resolve this would be to find the communication and orders for the parts used to rebuild the cars. I take it that this concern is why Jerry Glow decided not to do the CK X29 decals.

Rich, Elden,

I am not real clear on what is being said in this tread. I now understand the
first X29D's were probably "new" January 1952, but is this 1952 prototype of
different physical characteristics (other tha paint) then the WrightTrak model
being discussed.

X29D first appeared in the ORER in April 1952 issue for PRR that means they were
"new" in January 1952 (PRR ORER listings are 3 months behind the date of issue).
The first 1000 cars were delivered by mid 1953. These were delivered in the
circle keystone scheme. While the number series assigned to the class provided
for 2900 cars, I have not seen an ORER showing more than 2880 cars. Doesn't mean
