Rapido freight car at Cocoa Beach

Bill Schneider

I’m off in the EARLY AM to Prototype Rails in Cocoa Beach. I’ve noticed that Mike has very thoughtfully seen that the Cocoa Beach heat wave is ending just in time to minimize any sudden temperature shock for us Northern types! Much appreciated (ahem...) ;>)
For those who joined in the guessing games this last summer on the new Rapido HO freight car... one of you is correct. You’ll have to wait until this weekend to find out who.... First run test samples will be on our table. I will say that it looks great so far!
Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

I am curious what causes the typographic oddities like those in Bill's message? I see them in other's as well. Is it because I have an Apple?

I would guess it's your mail program, or some preference setting such as your choice of typeface for mail. My Apples, which use the Mac's Mail program, do not show these oddities.

Bill,

Most typographic oddities in my e-mails are due to my poor typing skills (!), but in this case I think it does have something to do with your e-mail program formatting.

See you in Cocoa,

Bill

FWIW, My Apple's Microsoft Office 2011 (Outlook 2011) also shows them.

I see those odd characters in some of the messages posted, and I'm reading it all on the web, on a PC running IE. So I've always assumed they are a result of whatever the POSTER is using, not anything on my end. Still puzzles me that in this day and age our communication systems aren't more compatible. It seems that certain uncommon ASCII characters are being substituted for certain punctuation characters.

For one thing, it's free from work and as the Mac Tech, I have to support
it. Outlook really isn't bad. Entourage was the pits on Exchange (though not
so bad for POP).

Thanks!

Oddly enough, the only place see strange character's was when someone replied and copied the original message.

I guess it shows my age but every time I see the title "Rapido freight car" the first thing I see is an old N scale boxcar.

Sure wish I was going to Cocoa Beach . . .

Speaking of odd characters, please try to see Bill's presentation. His wife has decided it would be too boring so she won't be there. There goes our one attendee.

Hey Bill,

Does my guess count?

Believe you have the address. You can combine this with the payment for the changes on the layout the A-F cars compelled me to make.

Oh...I suspect there will be at least one more. I plan to be there to give him the Bronx "cheer" if his presentation begins to drag...

Mike Brock...Now...should I go ahead and open the Rapido box that arrived yesterday for me to take to the show...or should I wait and let Bill open it?

In the original message, which I will post below, I see normal characters, in your reply Bill, I see the odd replacements for the original apostrophe.

Original as received by me:

could be a conversion issue if, for example, you're receiving it as HTML, and the original was plain-text, or vise-versa, or a plain-text message converted to HTML as viewed on the web. Not sure exactly, but we'll see.
