RPM meets in Greensburg PA and Savannah GA

Larry Kline

These two meets have both been held at about the same time for about ten years. I agree with Dennis Blake and Bill Welch that its a good thing that we have many RPM meets around the country and that its very difficult to avoid date conflicts. I hope to attend the Savannah meet one of these days. The dates don't always conflict.

The Greensburg PA meet has been held on the last weekend in March in odd numbered years since 2001. The Valley Forge PA meet is held in even numbered years.

For more info on the Greensburg meet check out our web site for much more information and a registration form:
http://www.hansmanns.org/rpm_east/2011.htm

I will post a more complete update when the speaker and vendor lists are more complete.

Being that I am somewhat involved with the Savannah Meet I think we need to work together to avoid this conflict. It has, as you stated, reared its head from time to time. Lets make it a point to communicate with each other as next years meets loom closer. Perhaps we can work together and eliminate this conflict.

I think there should be a clearing house (website) that would show
every RPM meet in the country.

There are at least 2 sites that are trying to list all of the meets. However this only works if meeting organizers send information about their meets to the web sites. Neither of the sites below is complete or up to date.

The protomeets Yahoo group which is intended especially for meet organizers:

and Joe D'Elia's Naperville site which has two lists of meets.

True, but the original question was regarding RPM meets. Since I am a board member of the NKPHTS I have had to miss the ELHS and PRRT&HS meeting a few times due to conflicts.

Yep, lists all of last year's meets :-)

I tried to do this once. Any sort of clearing house for prototype modelers is a fail.
Everybody does their own meet their own way, and it works out great - and most of the
same people attend the meets! There's a clear lack of desire for even an informal,
loose association to coordinate date conflicts. I know... I tried to start it 14 years
ago. It was obvious in a short time that the committee we created was in effect, King
of Nothing. What we have now works great and that's all I ever wanted. I made the
mistake of being an enthusiastic promoter of something that didn't need promoting -
pretty much everybody on board already knew the drill. To those not on board / in the
choir, I was just a vocal Rivet Counter Advocate to point a finger at for ruining the
hobby. Another lesson learned in middle age. The important thing is the outcome, which
is what I wanted to happen all along - even though I had nothing to do with it and my
efforts probably did more harm than good, we got there.

Denis,

The next Greensburg meet will be on March 29 and 30, 2013. We always have our meet on the last weekend in March. We make the hotel reservation two years in advance, i.e. right after each meet. We always post on this Yahoo Group and about 15 others in late October or early November.

I will be posting an update soon for our upcoming meet on March 26 and 27, 2011. And, thanks to Eric Hansmann, we have a web site for the Greensburg meet:

Andy's point is well taken. Still, isn't it worth a try.
I started the protomeets group on yahoo with the hope of having proto
meet organizers exchange ideas and talk about scheduling. There's no
reason historical society folks couldn't participate either.

We can give it a shot. Whatever we do wont' be perfect, but isn't it
worth a shot.

You also have HS Archives Work Sessions to deal with scheduling-wise.   They depend on the same knowledgeable folks who are active presenters to mentor and describe "stuff" correctly in their archive collections.

That RPM site does not have any 2011 dates.

If that page were kept up-to date it would work. How about a Google Calender with permission granted to allow other Google Calender users to access & integrate it with their own calenders. Only authorized persons could make changes.

Simple is usually better.
