Re-Introducing Myself

Ashley Pollard <ashley@...>

Hi Everybody,

I'm back after a hiatus, which meant I was away. Some of you with good memories may remember me as the woman who was researching the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway, including its freight cars.

Well I abandoned the P&SR when I was overwhelmed by the enormity of having to pretty much scratch build everything for the layout. Though it has to be said I do still have a lot of info on the rather unique cars that didn't meet AAR standards for interchange, and therefore never left the line.

However, if any of you ever want to model a P&SR freight car you know where to come; though to be honest I think Richard would still be your best best at identifying the provenance on some of the second hand purchases.

Now, I'm back into modelling American HO again.

This time the less obscure Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee, but still pretty much left field traction action/ However, it had very few home road cars in revenue earning service. So as a consequence I shall be modelling lots of NYC and PRR cars, along with a supporting cast of cars from the AT&SF, SP, the MILW and B&O, amongst other.

On that note you can see my humble fumblings at making authentic American freight cars on my blog here:

http://no-two-alike.blogspot.com/search/label/Freight%20Cars

Along with some blather about what might make up my roster of freight cars for the my layout, the fictitious Burnham Yard of the real North Shore Line.

Unlike some people, I feel under no obligation to pretend that only one set of beliefs are true, and that any others beliefs are mistaken; or that I know better than people themselves what is right for them to use. The point is precisely for all people to decide for themselves.

Careful, Bill, you'll scare her away :)

Welcome back Ashley.

Henry,

Do you still have the code in there set to break on startup? The debug
flag you fiddled with stops the program from being a service, so it never
indicates it is done with initialization.

Pay no attention, a long day and a typo. My apologies.

Bill, one of the best Southern Pacific modelers around is
Elizabeth Allen... She's not on this list but is an active
and knowledgeable contributor on the Espee and Modern Freight
Cars mailing lists. Ashley is welcome here because she likes
freight cars and the steam era. That's good enough for me.

I have a friend who has a whole photo album of P&SR rolling
stock! I've begged him to get those photos published or just
scanned but no luck, he won't budge.

Ashley may have thought someone on the list would think "hiatus" is some kind of surgery.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Now just don't geek out on me, okay.

Tim,

That is just so annoying. The one thing I need for my manuscript is about another 250 photographs, as I have about 50, but would probably need 300 (on the assumption that each double page spread would have three photographs).

Such is the life of anyone researching anything to do with historical railways I guess.

It is nice to see the ladies getting more involved in the hobby. If my wife was still alive she would be excited, for the longest time she felt like the elephant in the room. All the meets and hobby shop we went to, she was usually the only woman there that wasn't "dragged there by the hubby".Glad you are here.Mark McCoy tavwot@...
