Are you using a primer/base coat? Something in a light gray? Pierre Oliver --- In STMFC@..., "appremo" <armprem2@...> wrote:

Armand....I assume your airbrushing........I've used both Floquil and Scalecoat......with primer (Floquil) and without primer(Scalecoat) ....Key is a light but solid 1st coat, let dry and then a second coat will properly cover.......When I tried to do it with one coat I would get runs.......Jim W.

Armand,
Not just any priner - the base coat under yellow must be grey or silver to get any kind of decent coverage and even there, you'll need multiple coats. Accupaint yellow simply does not cover well, even over the gray Accupaint

Neither do I, especially with Poly Scale white, even on gray plastic. A several light coats seems to be better than a couple of heavy coats. The toughest application is ModelFlex in any color. Nelson Moyer -----Original Message-----

Sorry I can't speak from experience on any modern paints, back in the days I did lot of painting using the early, lacquer bases Floquil and the standard Scale Coat paints. I never had any problems getting excellent coverage using Floquil flats finishes but that glossy Scale Coat was another matter entirely. Light colors including yellows would just run off any sharp edges. What I eventually learned as a method of applying it was to spray a very lite base coat, light enough that the paint would not gloss. Yes this was a bit of a dry coat but with practice it worked well. Then I apply a normal second coat while the first was still slightly tacky. The course base coat gave some "tooth" for the second coat the cling to. John Hagen From: STMFC@... [mailto:STMFC@...] On Behalf Of Nelson Moyer Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2012 11:34 PM To: STMFC@... I have been custom painting models for others for some time now and got a solution to this problem by accident when I had to repaint my house would you believe. I was trying to cover some dark blue paint on the walls, no I didn't put it there, I had tried to cover it on a number of occassions but it still bled through. He suggested painting it silver first, I was sceptical but did it anyway, hey presto, no problem blue covered and the top coat was fine. I have always had trouble with white and yellow on models as well and tried the silver trick on them as well. One thin coat of silver over the model and then paint with another thin coat of the yellow or white seems to do the trick for me. I use Floquil and thin the paint more than the manifacturer recommends. I get very good coverage of the yellow and whites with this method. Hope it helps. Regards Rob McLear Kingaroy Australia. |

In any case my late friend Gordon Cannon also prefered Accupaint, at least on styrene, and almost always used a coat of Accupaint Erie - Lackawanna gray as a primer cost on everything he painted. Perhaps it might work for yiou on resin kits as well. Cordially, Don Valentine |

Accupaint made a primer for brass and resin -- it works better than straight AP on resin. I've also sprayed AP over Scalecoat I primer (MofW gray) without problems. T im O' ----- Original Message -----

Hello Armand,
For good airbrush coverage with yellow paint, use a light gray undercoat. I use Polly Scale's Undercoat Light Gray (who'd a thunk it?) under yellows and also under reds, even most "boxcar" shades. Overall this results in an opaque finish coat ("opaque" meaning no ground or undercoat color showing through) with fewer coats of paint applied to the model. So long, Andy |
