Does anyone happen to know the builder of SSW 31000-33499? Here is a photo:

I have that they were built between 1923-25, but don't know the builder.

I don't know the builder, but I recognize the car's ends as being re-used for a 40' double 8' door steel side rebuild into Bluebird bus seat boxcars. The USRA clone DS car reused the frame and ends (with splice additions). New car body had a Stanray steel roof along with the riveted steel sides. Pictured in a Henderson photo book.

Lee,
SSW ordered 1000 box cars from ACF in 1923 (in two 500 car lots),  My June 1924 ORER does not list #32000, but my Dec. 1924 issue shows the first 500 cars (32000-32499).  The second series was numbered 31500-31999, and appears in 1925 issues.

Great photo! Eric Neubauer's post to the old FC list 9-26-2000:

"SSW 31500-32499 box cars apparently include 2 orders of 500 cars each from
ACF placed in 1923. One lot is 9727. Does anyone, through builders photos or
other means, know what the other lot number/plant is? Also when was lot 9727
built and which 500 cars does it include?"

Lee, Rich, and Tim,
Adding some supplemental information to what Rich Burg provided, I have
documented two ACF lot numbers & dated builder's photos:

Lot 9498, SSW 31230 built 9-23 (31000-31499, St. Louis plant, order
date Nov. 1922).
Lot 9727, SSW 31926 built 5-24 (31500-31999, Madison plant, order date
Dec. 1923).

The Railway Age order lists show 3 orders from ACF of 500 cars each,
one order in 1922 and two orders in 1923. I have not been able to
verify a 3rd ACF order. Based on a photo that appears on page 379 of
the 1928 Car Builders' Cyclopedia, I believe that one of the orders
listed as ACF in the 1923 R.A. order list was either a mistake or was
changed to be built by Mount Vernon as series 32000-32499. The Mount
Vernon photo of SSW 32499 shows a build date of 3-24.

According to the 1924 R.A. order list, Mount Vernon built 1,000 SSW
40-ton box cars. The order was placed in December, so these cars were
likely 32500-33499 with build dates in 1925.

Circa mid-1930s to early 1940s, many of the cars in original series
31000-33499 were raised from 8'-6" to 10'-2" inside height and re#
36000-38499 (1,784 10'-2" cars in 1/43). Another 200 of the original
31000-33499 series cars were rebuilt as all-steel auto cars in 1936-37
(re# 46000-46199), then had their roofs raised in 1939 with IH of
10'-9".
