First round for those signing up DONE ~ last minute revisions

Greg Martin

Just a reminder of who's is who on the sign up list. There was another adjustment as two additional members on the list are not going to be able to make the event so the notches change.

I am humbled to share this year's project with all of you.

Please remember to check your egos at the door...

Remember at least for the SHAKE N TAKE portion of the event bring your favorite "Jimmy Buffet" style Hawaiian Shirt 'cause Mont says it's a BASH AT THE BEACH !

Greg,

Is there a store at the Hilton that sells Hawaiian shirts. I haven't had occasion to purchase one out here in Colorado, so I am without. The closest I have is an old faded T shirt from St. Bart that features a line from a Jimmy Buffet song.

Go to Ron Jon’s surf shop, about a mile north of the hotel.  They have a free parking garage.

Or any of the other dozens of nearby stores will do.

Due to eating very well for too many years, none of my Hawaiian shirts fit. I hope a Barbados tee shirt will be an acceptable substitute.

Spen,

Seeing how this is your first time at the Bash at the Beach a faded old tee shirt hanging out over your faded jeans and sandals works as well.  We're just trying to capture that scruffy beach dude look... You know just like the Boss when they drug him off the beach and said hey kid ya wanna work for NASA?

Hardly. In fact I had never seen any ocean anywhere until NASA asked a Tennessee ridge runner to become a rocket scientist...and now I are one...or used to be. Actually, that is all too true. Back when I was a teenager, some of us young rocket scientists were launching solid fueled rockets by simply rolling paper to make a pipe like thing, then solidifying one end. We then stuffed something soft in the other end, put a fuse through it and Voila! Not being one settle on mediocrity, my first launch was a two stage vehicle. I even put an ant in it as an astronaut. Well, it blew up on the pad, singing my eyebrows a bit. I'm guessing that the ant wasn't too happy either. I never did tell that story to NASA...

Mike Brock...wonder what that has to do with frt cars? Oh well, I still have the key to the jail...

Brian Carlson

Sounds like your own version of October Sky. Freight cars did pick up coal from the mine so I should stay out of jail.

Who wanted to be a rocket scientist but the Cold War ended.

The Shake N Take parts I mailed are out for delivery in Merrit Island, FL.  Somebody please tell Greg Martin or Mike Brock to look for the mailman.

It was -8 when I walked to the Post Office to mail them.  Hope they thaw out before Saturday.

Came in an hour ago and are in my car's trunk to be carried to the hotel.

I'm sure there is a thrift store somewhere nearby. I've picked up nearly a dozen Hawaiian shirts over the years for little more than $3 a piece. Maybe I'll wear one here in El Paso this weekend and work on a freight car kit or two.

Aaron,

The parts are here and look fantastic. The kits are packed and the sample of the ATSF ends are here as well. Picked up a photo from Bob's photo of the Rock Island car with ROUTE of the ROCKET P&L Scheme that I will add to the SHAKE_N_TAKE library. John Greedy made custom labels for the boxes. Archer has made a great little gift pack for the presentation. We're set!

Aaron, thanks again for the help.

Annette got me a Hawaiian shirt in Kissimmee, and I wore it today only to feel like an outcast. I think there were only four in the whole place. I guess I didn't get the memo....

So it really DOES take a rocket scientist to run an RPM meet.

I was already too fat to be an astronaut by the time I found out I was also claustrophobic. But I was always a space fanboy, still am. Went to the Atlantis exhibit yesterday and it is VERY impressive.
