That's the problem with errors. Not only are they
annoying, they also seem to be inevitable. In our area, the author is often the
only person qualified to do a thorough fact check, but unfortunately
checking one's own work is not the best policy. In one of my books, there are
thousands of opportunities to make a simple error, and it's hard not to blink
once in a while.

Thanks for the correction, Eric. I’m not sure where I got the 1909 date, but - unfortunately - it’s in the caption in my book. It’s one of the hazards of being an author; no matter how hard you try to get it right, errors creep in, and then they’re in print forever. Richard Hendrickson |

Yeah but it's still a really nice shot.

The L&N had very similar cars albeit w/double sheathed ends which I believe was very similar to a NYC design. A kit was done by Sunshine. Later the L&N built similar cars with a shallower side sill and inset Murphy ends. Paired with each of these designs were Ventilated cars with vents in the ends and screen doors.

The car thinks it was built in 3-13. :-) I
believe it is correct. Sample car done in 12-12. SSC builder.

Series 63500-64199 built in 1909. Note the early Andrews trucks and the substantial steel underframe with channel side and end sills and fish belly steel center sills, one of the first of its kind when many box cars were still being built with truss rod underframes. The 7-7 inverse corrugated steel ends were added later; the cars were originally built with wood sheathed ends. There’s another photo of D&RGW 63993 in my book Focus on Freight Cars, Vol. 2.
