Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Chlorine car

Hello all,

I am in the process of finishing a n-scale model of the subject car and am trying to determine the correct lettering and color of the car, as the old MR Dollar Car article didn't provide a lot of info regarding this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rick Dietrichson

All the photos I¹ve seen are black cars, white lettering, with silver or red
canisters

Thanks!

I've done a bunch of research into these cars to maybe one day write an magazine article...some day.

The Pennsylvania Salt cars were black with white lettering. The cars were PSMX 1001-1033. Tanks were silver but in later years they started using more red tanks. Tanks were concave on one side and concave with a 'bubble' (to cover the valve) on the other. Decals are more of a challenge however. Jerry Glow is the only source for decals for this car, however I've been waiting 4 months for him to send me my order and keep hearing something about how he's having problems with paper or something (really 4 months?!!). Other than that, there's nothing that I have been able to find. I do have one digital photo of PSMX 1016 but it doesn't show much in the way of lettering. Let me know if you would like me to send you the file.

Hi Jeff,
Yes I sure could use a photo of the car. I maybe able to help with decals also. I have a friend with an ALPS printer that may be able to print decals...let's hope.
I too ordered decals from Jerry and the time is now about the same as yours. Mine were a set of station lettering for San Clemente in N scale.
Thanks again,
Rick

Jeff:

Be patient Jerry will send the decals.  I too have waited for long periods of time but the wait was worth it.  Jerry is having some illness problems with his brother that keeps him for home, for long periods of time.

Jeff,

Back in 1988, I purchased an HO brass PSMX chlorine tank car from MTS. I painted it as PSMX 1016 using data available at that time. As I recall, the decals came from Champ. If it is of any value to you, I could photograph the model the model for you

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but...

When did the PSMX tank cars go into service, and roughly how long did they last?

thanks
