Tank cars for wine

I've just posted a new write-up on my blog about prototype and model wine tank cars, including a link to a sale price on some Ready-to-Run model wine cars. If you're interested, you can read it at this link:

Precision Scale also did 6 dome wine tank cars; I have one each of the
Madera and Martini Winery cars, SHPX 6611 and 6614 respectively.

Thanks!

Brian is exactly right. Where I said "Overland" brass wine tank cars, I should have said "Precision Scale," and I have now corrected the blog.

Thanks Tony,

You have identified the make of a six dome tank car I picked up at the

Collinsville, Conn., NOT Illinois, RPM meet last May. It is apparently one of

the earlier AHM cars. The important question is does it follow ANY prototype

or is it strckly a foobie?  I agree that it is a monster in comparison to the

Precision Scale car.

Cordially, Don Valentine

P.S. Nice to learn that Sandra Hendrickson seems to be adjusting well and

better than many have been able to under similar circumstances.

I have never found any prototype remotely like it, nor had Richard Hendrickson. Moreover, it is over 12,000 gallons, immensely larger than any wine tank car I know of. So I think designating it as a foobie is safe.

Thank you Tony,  For the very little I have into it nothing is really lost.

Too bad it is a foobie, however, as it is an interesting car.

Thanks again, Don Valentine

Cross your fingers. I believe Owl Mountain Models announced they would do the cars, but they seem to have removed planned projects from their web site.

There is an N-scale car available on Shapeways. Maybe you can persuade the model owner to scale it up to HO (or build in sections in O):

http://www.shapeways.com/model/634349/n-scale-6-dome-tank-car-quot-roma-wine-car-quot-2-pack-kit.html

On the other hand the domes are so huge, I wonder if they would make
good transplants if one wants to model some single dome tank car.

Or use them on an S scale wine tank car!

The old Athearn HO scale three-compartment tank car is about the right size, if I figure rightly, for an S scale 4000-gallon car. If someone can come up with S scale trucks and details, they might have a fun project ... I mention this so I won't be tempted.
