New member with a resin kit question

david ellzey

I was referred to this group concerning the availability of resin kits from Sunshine Models. I understand that Mr. Martin Lofton has died and the kits are no longer produced but some may still be available by mailing in a request. Can anyone advise me in this matter? Are the kits available through another source?

The specific kit that I am seeking is the SP B-50-15 rebuilds (kit #38.35)

Sunshine Models seems to be the only source of these box cars except the brass imports, and $400 freight cars are way out of my budget!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

These particular kits are long gone at Sunshine. I think your most realistic hope is eBay, but expect to have to be patient.

As Stephen says ebay you just have to keep looking they do turn up but they are getting up to the $90-100 mark if you are lucky you may find one for about $70.00.

Thanks to all members for suggesting ebay to find these Sunshine Models kits. I can see that patience will be the virtue needed to build up a fleet of these cars:-)

You can even list the part with ebay so that they will notify you when the part comes up. That way you won't have to remember to look it up every week.
Good Luck.

You may want to look for B50-13
& B50-14. You wanted a particular Kit number you might be best looking for any B50-15 otherwise you may be waiting a long time.

The problem with the B50-13 and 14's is that they didn't last into the late '50's and early 60's, the time period that I am modeling.

I'm glad you see the series that way, as it was very much my intention! And fun to research and write, too.

Here's a B-50-14 freshly reweighed in 1957.. but yeah you and I model the
same time period. I plan to convert some of my older models into MofW cars
so I'm always on the prowl for photos of those conversions.
