Hello All,  In looking at a photo of refrigerator car, IC 50302, on Railroad Picture Archives, http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsPicture.aspx?id=671230

I am wondering what was the paint color of the ends and roofs.  In this photo it appears it could have been black or orange?   Which color was it?   Thank you for your time and effort to help.   Lester Breuer

From photos --

1950's -- dark green roof and ends and sill stripe. Black underbody and
sill tabs and trucks.

1960's (your photo) -- adopted MDT/NRC style of painting -- orange sides,
mineral red ends and roof, black underbody and trucks.

In the 1930s they had silver roofs. I have an official IC photo of steel reefer 50011 that has a silver roof. The car is stenciled NEW 10-37. The green stripe on the bottom looks to be a lighter green then the stripe on top. It's a black and white photo so I can't tell the shade of the sides, yellow or orange.

But I have been told that they gave up on the aluminum-color roof during WW II and never went back to it. If that's so, no modeler of an era later than 1945 will want silver roofs.
