Minuteman Scale Models has purchased the Scalecoat paint line from Weaver Models

Dave Owens

I just spoke with Shawn Cavaretta of Minuteman Scale Models of
Pepperell, Mass. and Shawn confirmed that he closed on the purchase of
Scalecoat today. The deal was in the works for several weeks.

He's headed back to Massachusetts today with a truck load of Scalecoat
and plans to continue manufacturing the paint and to add new colors.

He has immediate plans to add MEC pine tree green and harvest yellow,
SCL purple, MBTA purple, B&M blue and Guilford gray and orange.

Here is the contact information for Minuteman and Shawn:

It's good news that Scalecoat paint will survive the demise of WEAVER MODELS. But meanwhile back at the ranch--the modeling section of the basement--can I still obtain paint from WEAVER until the end of the month, or will I have to wait until the new vendor takes over?

Tom, you can buy Scalecoat directly from Des Plaines Hobbies, which also
stocks many custom Scalecoat colors, not just the Weaver colors. Just go
to the web site, add the colors to your shopping cart, pay and wait for them.
Shipping is Fed Ex Ground. I don't work there I just really like that store!

Motrak Models, often selling at RPM meets, also carries Scalecoat. Not sure how to order it from him, though:

Tim,

Thank you for that reminder. It's been two or three years since my last visit to DPH, and I had forgotten that they stock Scalecoat. I, too, linger long whenever I visit the place.

Like everyone else who carries Scalecoat, Des Plaines had a "run" when it was announced that the paint was being discontinued, and it may take a little time to get new supply channels up and running. If you need something, they're an excellent choice, but don't be surprised if they don't have everything you want. I didn't find Pullman green in Scalecoat I in a 2 oz bottle, but did find a spray can.
