This could be from series 175000-178197, over 3,000 all steel gons w/ 41'9" IL, 4'5" IH,
4-rib dreadnaught ends and drop doors. Train Shed Cyclopedia #70 p.239 has a 1938 builder
photo of SOU #176844

Tim,

That certainly meets prior info I have.  However when I enlarge the photo both the A and B ends appear to have six  narrow corragations, not four.  I've bought a NYC 41' gon kit with Murphy ends in S scale and was planning to change the ends.  This is the closest S scale kit to the Southern car in length, rib numbers, etc. Then I saw the photo.  I wanted to attach the photo, but was unable to do for some reason.
Bill Welch suggested a wreck rebuild.  Certainly reasonable, but both ends?  I'm probably going to rebuild to deadnaught ends but a bit like solving a mystery puzzle.

Thanks,
George Courtney

It's possible some of the cars in the series were built with Murphy ends and
others received dreadnaught ends. That car builder photo I mentioned is one of
only two clear photos I've seen of any of the gondolas in the series. Another
car with 4-rib dreadnaught ends is 177007 (1960's photo)

Sorry but no amount of "wish'in, 'n hoping, 'n pray'in" to quote (badly) the hit song, witchcraft or any other kind of "jue-jue" is going to transform the Dreadnaught ends used to the build the Southern Railway's high side Gons into a Murphy end. Really sorry I offered the lame explanation of a repair. If you look at the triangle of light shinning on the far end of the photo in question it is clearly a Dreadnaught end. Move on please.

Bill,

Like those figures which some people see two different objects.  Tim Connor responded to me.  I said I was going with the dreadnaught end and posted to politely respond to Tim's suggestion.  Geez, I was thanking Tim for his response.
