Detail Associates?

Anybody know what's happening at DA?

I was told by my area hobby shop that they are going to stop doing the lost wax castings(if that is the method they use). They supposedly are retooling to do their line in plastic. Alas, expect to pay more for less... Allen On Saturday, December 12, 2015 9:14 PM, "Pierre Oliver pierre.oliver@... [STMFC]" wrote: Anybody know what's happening at DA?

If you are talking about DA/Detail Associates, their parts have always been injected styrene parts.

I'm suspecting that my question is being misinterpreted.

I know I'm not alone in being unable to contact the owners. I know there have been some health issues with some of the partners. Does anyone know if they are still in business? Pierre Oliver www.elgincarshops.com www.yarmouthmodelworks.com On 15/12/2015 11:49 AM, 'Jack Burgess'

I think that Dennis posted some information on them a month or two ago…

DA also sold some etched brass, wire, cast metal, and even cast resin.

Quite the eclectic product line. Whenever I've found hard to find items (AB brake set, box car ladders) I stocked up. :-) Tim At 12/15/2015 11:49 AM Tuesday, you wrote:

I think Tim is confusing Details Associates with Details West A lot of Details West track details are cast metal, which makes them hold up better to track cleaning solvents and the like. I can also recall way back in antiquity when they were doing Diesel loco fan details in white cast epoxy, but that was close to four decades ago. DA seemed to do everything in styrene except their formed wire products. Dennis Storzek |

Before posting that email, I tried finding it on the STMFC Yahoo site but couldn’t. And then I thought maybe it was Dave Hussey who posted it but I still couldn’t find it. Now I’m thinking it was a dream. <g> But I did find another email which had an email address for DA but Yahoo deleted the end of the address. But I did pass it along to Pierre so he could contact that the member who posted the email with the contact info for DA.

Mistaken on both counts, Dennis. Don't take my word for it -- crack open an old Walthers catalog from the early 1990's. I actually HAVE DA brass castings and etched parts and resin parts so I know what I'm talking about. Tim O'Connor I think Tim is confusing Details Associates with Details West |

Actually both are correct, sort of. DA did some of their parts in both brass and plastic in parallel product lines...the brass ones used a lighter brown/beige packaging card...

I think you're confused now Craig. All of my DA parts in brass & plastic are in the same tan/brown color packages. Details West used several different package colors for freight car parts, track parts, diesel detail parts, ... I just checked and found DA brass, white metal, plastic and wire items all in the same color packages. Tim O'Connor At 12/18/2015 04:00 PM Friday, you wrote: Actually both are correct, sort of. Initially DA's brass parts (which were made using their plastic parts as investments) came in nearly white packages, noticeably lighter than the tan cards used for the plastic parts. methinks thou dost extrapolate from slightly different shades of tan (quite common in DA packages -- also different shades of ink printing on them) to some nefarious scheme to color code packages I call both of those packages "tan" and all this began when someone said DA never produced brass castings. :-) Merry Christmas, Ho Ho Ho!
