Both the CB&Q and B&MR sprayed ballast with oil to keep down dust. There is a photo (not the clearest) of track spraying using a tank car apparently owned by the CB&Q. I was previously advised that this was a Bettendorf tank car, although I’ve not seen any record that the Burlington had any from this company.
