I have communicated with Pierre about this off list, but I just want to amplify what Corey has said. As far as I know, there were 600 of these cars constructed originally in 1923, and they road the rails in that configuration (10 ft wide doors) for more than a decade. Even then, there are 180 "original" cars in my 1945 ORER (as least in terms of door width). If there are already three door configurations available, it seems a shame not to offer the original, as depicted in the prototype photo on the YMW site. I almost ordered the kit based on that photo, but am glad that I inquired about the details before I did. Dave Parker Riverside, CA On Monday, June 5, 2017 2:05 PM, "Corey Fischer hexomega2319@... I have a photo of 40709 w/a reweigh date of January 1967 in very good condition w/what looks like fairly fresh paint and stenciling and a very wide left side door. It is stenciled "AB Brake." Also CP 40498 in 1969 with those bar code thingys. Cars operated in USA will need different trucks.

Thanks for checking with Pierre about this car. Given that it was originally built n 1923 it would be great to have an original version available for my 1926 focus. Pierre, count me in for at least one or two should this come to fruition.

I can think of a photo of this series car with the ten foot "original" doors taken at Rossland, BC in 1948. Not sure exactly how long 10' door cars lasted but they were certainly around in the transition era. I would be interested in one. I will build one of the current kits first of course. ;)

The new Yarmouth kit represents cars in series 297500-297799 built in 1923 with 13-6 door openings. With all due respect to you and to Ian, this statement is not at all consistent with the evidence in the relevant ORERs. In 1926, the CP owned a total of 1731 class XA cars across just six series, four of which were 41 ft cars of ~40 tons capacity. These included two virtually identical "sister" classes, 297500-297799 and 297800-298099, 300 cars each, the only difference being a small difference in CAPY. None of the XAs had doors wider than 10-0 at this time, consistent with the builder's photo of 297500 on the YMW webpage. Apart from a very minor adjustment in CAPY, these two series remain unchanged through 1930, with a total of 599 cars. It is not until the 1935 ORER that we see a reduction in the original series (down to 500 cars), and the appearance of a dimensionally identical series with 12-0 doors: 100 cars n 296800-296899. In 1940, the original series are down to 181 cars total, and we first see the first appearance of what are obviously the same cars with 13-3 doors: 299 cars in 296300-296599. Car 296390, which is the model shown on the YMV site, is from this group of cars. The distribution of cars across the three door widths is largely the same in 1945, but I have no idea what happened thereafter. This was the basis of my earlier statement that the 600 relevant cars with 10-0 doors persisted for a better part of a decade before rebuilding with wider doors began. I've had a conversation with the pattern maker on this kit and we've established that we can indeed offer a "as built" variant set of parts for this kit. A new side plug, a brace and a set of doors. Not sure how long it will take to get this into production, but I'll try for as quick as possible. Pierre Oliver www.elgincarshops.com www.yarmouthmodelworks.com On 2017-06-05 10:04 PM, Corey Fischer

Are are saying the evidence of the extensive ORER entries of many years is
