Can Anyone identify the gondola coupled to the MP blister sided gondola?
gary laakso
The picture is on the Central of Georgia and the gondola in question has about half of one side with diagonals and the other without:

I have noticed a lot of photographs of gondolas look like this, but I think it is some kind of illusion.

At first I thought this might be one of the taller AT&SF post Caswell gondolas, but those had a Pratt pattern for the truss, I believe this car has a Howe truss pattern. Jim Gates -------------------------------------------- On Thu, 3/7/19, gary laakso <vasa0vasa@...> wrote:

Hi Gary and List Members,
If you look at the image at "Original" resolution,
one can faintly (very faintly) make out the diagonals on the near half of
the car. They don't show well because the angle of the sun illuminates those
diagonals very evenly, and so they seem to disappear unless you do some close
inspection.
The "Original" resolution image can be viewed at
the link below.

Hi Claus,
Good eye. Now that you’ve brought them to our attention, I can see
them too.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what looks to be CG 39623 shown to the
left of the water tower? A ventilated boxcar perhaps?
Pax,

It certainly looks like CG 39623 is a ventilated boxcar, but given the light paint and dark stencil, I think that it might be in company service and not revenue service.

Hi Bruce,
Given its apparent age and the 1944 date for the photo, I suspect you’re
right.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the car type.

Claus, I see them also. Faintly, likely due to them fully catching the sunlight, but they are there. John Hagen

It looks like an IC car to me, Gary. The indented Murphy ends are the giveaway.
