There are some CGW train list sheets laying next to the computer. My wife is transcribing them to an excel sheet. I noticed empty PRR covered hopper 254288 headed from Randolph Minn. to Ingalton Ill. Really surprised to see that car out here! Not being a Pennsy guy can someone please tell me about this car?
Many Thanks,

Class H30, from PRR 254251 - 255575.
HO scale kits from Funaro (resin) and Rail Shop Models (styrene); the Bowser model is Class H30A but can be used as a stand-in if you don't want to deal with a resin kit or find an out-of-production model.

Note that Funaro offers both Class H30 (stock nos. 6840-6845) and H30A (stock nos. 30001-30070) kits.

Ben,

The original release of the Bowser was also an H30, not an H30A 😉

Thanks Ben and Bruce! If we ever get to go to swap meets again I can tell my 60s modeler friends they can buy one of those neat looking C hoppers.

I doubt there's anyway of know why the car was in Randolph, or what it brought. Randolph was a pickup point on the line from Minneapolis to Oelwein. The CGW had line running east to RedWing and west as far as Mankato through Northfield with connections with the MN&S there. The MN&S had trackage rights over to Randolph because of all the Canadian and NW traffic funneled to them in the Twin Cities.

My wife is just starting on a months worth of train lists for the Minn-Oelwein train #90, which was a pretty long train 150~ cars. It will be interesting to see if there are any more of those hoppers?

I checked with the person that owns the train lists. Never thought about the fact that the list are past this groups end date...He found 3-4 more cars returning and a few cars coming north with loads. Silica sand most were fertilizer materials. Nice to know there's a reason for guys modeling this area to have one of these cars.
