Rates Charged For Loaded Reefers
Rates Charged For Loaded Reefers A question from another group: "I've got a question about rates. The shipper paid by weight to move produce. And the car had a tare weight. Assuming that 13,000 pounds of ice is in the car, and the car is weighed before transit to its destination, was the shipper paying a freight rate to move ice? Seems unfair to the shipper." Nominal weight of full bunkers both ends was 10,000 pounds. But if car weight was established before icing, no problem. Shippers of course paid for all the icing that was done, but not for transporting it!
