Brian, all;
PRR had no GSC flat cars of the “Commonwealth” design, but did own F41 classes that had a slightly different casting that had a different side tapers, a shallower sill outside the bolsters, and different top members. They did have the
~60’ version as class F47. (think Tangent)
I did an F41 build years ago from the Tichy kit, and agree it is not rounded off enough to closely resemble that casting. I spent a lot of time with sanding sticks to round off the edges.

Subject: [Non-DoD Source] Re: [RealSTMFC] Tichy GSC Flatcar
This is one of those weird times when the Walthers car captures the look of the GSC prototype better. The tichy car molding is too sharp for a casting imho. I was going to do a Pennsy car at one time, but something stopped me. I don’t
recall what that was currently.
Removing the tichy weight works as Eric noted.
I’ve had a number of projects “go bad” because I assumed the coupler height would be correct but discovered it to be wrong after too many details had been finished to do a major re-work on the underframe. If possible, I try to locate a
drawing giving me dimensions to check earlty in the process.
Here is a part of a GSC flat car drawing from the SRHA archives… (measurements are always from top of rail). I have not checked the Tichy (PRR?) version against drawings but the Walthers car issued a number of years ago is nearly perfect.

Elden That’s probably why I never completed the F41 project, different casting.

Brian;
The Walthers car certainly does represent a casting much better. I had no idea it was coming when I did my Tichy bash, otherwise, I would have waited.

Group;
You can see the F41 side sill taper and depth of bolster-to-end-sill depth better, plus the unusual deck arrangement, in these pics.
