NP 50’ reefer

Could someone provide some background to this NP reefer.  When built, series, etc.  it’s part of a photo I’m using in a book.   Image at MP East Yard in Kansas City 1943

The 1940 Northern Pacific Freight Equipment Diagram book lists the 90000-90799 (with basket type bunker) and the 90800-90999 (with divided basket type bunkers) as 42’ 70,000 lbs. capacity steel underframe cars built in the South Tacoma shops in 1931-32.

Charlie: It shows 42’-3 5/8” with 43’-8 5/8” running boards.  In HO, Norwest did them in resin and W&R did them in brass.

Inside length was 34' 6" - pretty close to typical for a "40 foot" produce reefer.

I have a couple of the Brian Pate (Norwest) kits if anyone is interested.

Thanks; the angle fooled me I thought it was a 50’ car.  Thanks for the info.  NP car at KC just reinforces how much reefers travelled.

I agree, I thought it was a 50' car. I got fooled. The height is only 12'8" to the top of the running board.

Hi Tim, I would be very interested in your two reefers. I will send an email off list thanks.
