You are correct. There is a photo of an all-steel Erie auto car (98506) with a 12-38 reweigh. With a 3-year reweigh interval, the latest this photo should date from is the winter of '41-42. Surprised to see the USRA car with an Ajax hand brake this early, Might warrant a dive into the AFEs. Interesting array of house cars in those photos, including two with a herald I didn't recognize. I think they are DT&I cars, something I have not previously seen on B&M tracks (caveat: in pre-WW-II photos) -- Dave Parker Swall Meadows, CA |

This is but one of about 8 photos of this particular wreck along the Deerfield River in MA. Here's my listing if freight car photos included in the Leslie Jones collection at the BPL:
http://fc.redmansefarm.com/photosBPL-LJ.html Oh, I pegged this image as ca. 1939, but it's been long enough that I don't recall why. I suspect I saw a reweigh date in one of the eight... Earl Tuson |

Interesting photo, at least to a B&Mer. The USRA car on top of the pile has Ajax brakes but still sports the rectangular herald (as does 72721). Other photos suggest that the Ajax application (along with AB brakes) coincided with the adoption of the Minuteman herald in 1946. This configuration of the USRA car suggests a time stamp not too far from 1946, unless the prior evidence is in error.
Couldn't find 72721 in Ken Akerboom's transcription of the B&M's car books, but there are some gaps in that data (or maybe the car was repaired rather than scrapped?). -- Dave Parker Swall Meadows, CA |

It looks like one of the B&M USRA double-sheathed cars on top of the pile, too.
