Acrylic paint for FGE yellow

Ken O'Brien

Looking for currently available acrylic paints for FGE yellow. Prefer not having to mix, but not adverse to doing that.

Working on two different time frames; one is the 20's, the second is late 40s- early 50s.

Appreciate any assistance. .

Ken, I've never seen a color chip spec for this yellow besides reefer yellow. Keep in mind, yellow deteriorated rapidly under the sun so it depends if you want the car to look new.

We have reefer yellow in Floquil (bottle and spray), Model Master and Polly Scale. There are a myriad of other yellows should someone be able to ID it further.

Also Sunshine noted that to get a faded version of Reefer yello use Santa Fe Yellow.  I have used it in lacquer versions and like the different look it gives to some of my cars

I used Tru Color WFE Yellow for my WFE and FGE reefers. I used Armour yellow for BRE steel reefers and WFE Yellow for wood side reefers. I don’t know which acrylic yellow matches the Tru Color paint, but perhaps someone else does. I attached a photo of a few of my FGE cars. The middle car has Sunshine Decals, while the two end cars have Speedwitch decals.

Thanks, Fenton.

Ken could try color sampling in PE and having the color chip file printed at a commercial graphics shop on a color calibrated printer, then mixing a match. I did that for SFRD reefer sides. I color sampled several prototype and model photos to mix four shades, one recently painted, and the other three progressive shades toward yellow.
