Route Card Board
Does anyone have this manual or copy to be able to share what is stated there regarding wether one is located on only one side of a freight car or is one located on both sides of a freight car?
Thank You in advance for your time and effort to respond.

Don't have the Manual but route card boards are on both sides of a car. Cars in a cut to be switched are carded on the side they'll be worked from.
Placard boards are on both sides and both ends. Hazardous placards are applied on all four, so a placard is visible from any side. Obviously some other types of placards aren't necessarily applied to all four boards, e.g.
"Unload this side".
Defect card holders are one side, to hold paperwork accompanying the car as is goes for repair.
Hope this helps.
In 1952 routing card boards were to be located on house cars on one door on each side directly under placard board and as near the bottom of door as lifting handle would permit. This followed a circular letter in 1950 to car owners pointing out difficulties utilizing routing card boards which were located higher than 72" above ground level on house cars.
Only routing card boards were lowered. The Car Construction Committee attempted lowering the placard boards as well, but needed approval from the Bureau of Explosives, which would not be granted until 1953. This was also agreed by union carmen and others affected.
Finally, in 1953 agreement was reached to also lower placard boards, to go into effect in 1954.Bob Chaparro
