Interesting trio of Washington Terminal MoW cars
While perusing eBay, I came across this trio of images showing MoW cars at Washington Terminal in Washington, DC which I thought to particularly interesting:
Washington Term # 503 Ivy City DC 1/1/75 https://www.ebay.com/itm/364071684656 Washington Term # 502 Ivy City DC 1/1/75
Washington Term # 506 Ivy City DC 1/1/75 https://www.ebay.com/itm/364071684938 Interested to hear folks' thoughts on the background of these cars. Found it fascinating they were still in use as late as 1975, albeit as house/tool cars. Almost looks like there's vapor coming from the air lines on the gondola. The two house cars look like ex PRR XL type work cars.

The boxcars look like Harriman boxcars from the very early 1900's. See Westerfield for more info. fenton On Sun, Dec 11, 2022 at 11:38 AM Ben Sullivan <ben.sullivan75@...> wrote: While perusing eBay, I came across this trio of images showing MoW cars at Washington Terminal in Washington, DC which I thought to particularly interesting: --

Hi List Members,
With respect to Harriman boxcars, I don't think so.
I propose PRR class XL boxcars - see link below...

Indeed, those jacking pads at the bolsters are a Pennsy XL design feature. The B&O M-12 and M-13 class box cars followed similar designs but lacked the jacking pads.

I think the flat car is a Pennsy FL class. These had a shallower fishbelly side sill than the later FM cars. Eric Hansmann Murfreesboro, TN On Dec 11, 2022, at 11:08 AM, Dennis Storzek via groups.io <soolinehistory@...> wrote:

I agree that these are PRR cars. That should not come as a particular surprise given that
the PRR was a partner in the Washington Terminal and that the WT's wreck derrick and idler car are an ex PRR W120 (120 ton brownhoist, aka the Tichy crane) and a F24 (preserved at the Baltimore museum)

I'm bashing an Alton Harriman car right now and it also has the jacking pads and the fishbelly sides. At least the Westerfield versions of the IC, C&A, UP and several others have them. I assume that it was a design feature in the early 1900's boxcars.....or not Fenton On Sun, Dec 11, 2022 at 12:17 PM Eric Hansmann <eric@...> wrote:
